IРІР‚в„ўd come full circle: I was a session musician again. Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that. РІР‚СљAt the start of my career, in the late РІР‚В60s, I worked as a session musician.

РІР‚СљAnd I realized there was something weirdly familiar about working like this,РІР‚Сњ he continues.

But all the tracks I worked on were really interesting and diverse, stuff that was completely different to anything IРІР‚в„ўm known for, stuff that took me out of my comfort zone into completely new territory. Suddenly I had every Rush album, or every Elton John album, or maybe wanted to check out Steve Morse, etc. I was discovering all these bands and artists I'd put on the back burner. Some of the sessions were recorded under very stringent safety regulations: working with another artist, but separated by glass screens. Elton John has announced the forthcoming release of The Lockdown Sessions, an album of collaborations recorded remotely over the last 18 months, out October 22, featuring more than 20. You could go to the used record store with 20 and leave with original pressings of every Billy Joel album from the 70's. Some of the recording sessions had to be done remotely, via Zoom, which IРІР‚в„ўd obviously never done before. But, as the pandemic went on, oneРІР‚С’off projects kept cropping up. John said, РІР‚СљThe last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album. РІР‚СљWhile it was no easy feat recording during a pandemic, a completely new way of working for Elton, he leaned into the challenge with some magnificent results.РІР‚Сњ РІР‚СљThis album saw Elton coming full circle and returning to his roots as a session musician,РІР‚Сњ it continues.
